Sex Ratio falls down from 2001 to till now

The state has witnessed a sharp decline of girls compared to boys in the 0-6 age group in the past 10 years. In 2001 there were 961 girls for 1000 boys, which reduced to 939 in 2011.

The rate of decline is equally sharp in both rural and urban areas. In Hyderabad too the CSR fell from 943 to 914 girls per 1000 boys, which happens to be the lowest in the state.

In some districts of the state, the CSR is very low, up to 850(for 1000 boys), which is much lower than the national ratio of 912 girls for every 1000 boys.

With technology making inroads into rural areas, CSR has dropped in all the Telangana districts, Ananthapur and Kadapa among others.

Several organizations have launched a campaign across the state to maintain gender equilibrium.
Sandeep Chanchra, director of Action Aid India, an anti-poverty agency said, “A huge campaign will be launched across the state to check the declining ratio both in villages and cities from Independence Day till Gandhi Jayanthi.”

According to the agency, the campaign will cover 500 panchayats in 10 districts.

“Unless, we bring about a change in our attitude towards women and the girl child, it will be very difficult to arrest the imbalance in the child sex ratio,” added the director.
